Divided Together
The interdisciplinary project deals with artistic perspectives on the violent conflict in Ukraine. The Ukrainian cities of Dnipro and Donetsk are close and seem similar but are separated by the front. It is only in a virtual space that the separation can be temporarily dissolved. Together with the documentary filmmaker Zee Upītis (Configure//Disfigure), we developed a concept, using live performance and 360° film which would enable two theatre collectives from both cities to perform together.
The first phase of the project was created at Theaterlabor Bielefeld in 2017-18, including the performance “Closing In / Приближение” and “Divided Together: Live Performance”, which were presented at Construction Festival in Dnipro, Ukraine.
Divided Together: Video Walk
The videos which are projected on outside walls seem to depict ordinary everyday sequences from both cities. Live performers act as guides, leading the audience from one place to the next and directly into a new location.
The video walk which was created during several workshop phases in Germany, Ukraine and Russia, and was shown as a site-specific adaption for the X-Changes Festival at Kampnagel, Hamburg in May 2019, in cooperation with Theaterlabor Bielefeld, Germany, Configure//Disfigure, UK, and Kultura Medialna, Ukraine.
