About ILE

The International Laboratory Ensemble (ILE) is a growing network of international artists and theatre groups, united in an effort to continue the theatre laboratory tradition in the 21st century.

The ILE was founded by Yuri B. Anderson in 2017. It pursues international co-productions with artists, ensembles and groups which continue the traditions of 20th century experimental theatre, with a focus on physical theatre and experimental voice work.

The “laboratory” aspect involves an exploratory character in theatre practice, seeking to experiment with physical and vocal work as well as site-specific performances, pushing boundaries and working in an interdisciplinary style.

The ILE sets out to create stable networks and long-term collaborations, building lasting relationships with artists and international partners. Its aim is to create international co-productions, collaborative training and artistic exchanges with artists, ensembles and groups. Against the current worldwide trends of nationalism and re-nationalisation of the cultural sphere, the ILE aims at working across borders.
